I need information on this poem"The Women on my mother's side were known" by Julia Alvarez
It took a while to figure out what the student was looking for, as she wasn't as clear as the statement above. I finally figured out what she was looking for.
I checked the Literary Reference Center and Literature Resource Guide databases. While we could find a great deal of information on Julia Alvarez, we couldn't find anything on this particular poem. I also tried Academic Search, which didn't turn up anything.
Since the poem was in a collection called Homecoming, I looked for the book and ordered it through OhioLink.
I even Googled for information, and found that it was discussed in a 2002 edition of Literature: An Introduction to Fiction, Poetry, and Drama, Third Compact Edition by X.J. Kennedy and Dana Goia. Later editions of thsi book are available at West Reserves; the student was not interested in going over there.
OhioLink's copy of this book is "in transit."
I checked CPL and printed out information with the call number for the student. There were no copies at the main library, which is where the student wanted to go.
I also looked in Poetry Criticism. While Julia Alvarez is covered in several Gale databases, they are not ones to which either Tri-C or OhioLink subscribe. The author was not covered in Poetry for Students.
